Emmy-nominated Irish actress, actress and producer Roma Downey prepares for release of faith-based series The Baxters, based on Karen Kingsbury’s best-selling book series proceeding.
in a recent interview christian postDowney shared that faith-based movies and TV shows tend to bring real-life issues to the surface, such as addiction, pain, and loss.
“I think in past projects some of these issues have surfaced. We’ve seen faith projects where, for some reason, people of faith don’t have the same problems as other people. “Of course we have our problems,” says Downey, best known for this role.in Touched by an angelSaid.
“We all get on our knees in different ways. It’s just that when we get down there, we stop, pray, and help each other in a million ways. I think that’s important.” ”
baxtersThe film, which will be released on Prime Video on March 28, follows Elizebeth, her husband John (Ted McGinley), and their five adult children as they navigate life’s challenges.
“I think the audience will empathize with this family and fall in love with this family,” Downey said. “First of all, the actors are great… and the story unfolds a bit like an ‘opera of hope’… You think of melodrama and people who are into it, but ours is an “opera of hope”. During the Easter season, a season of great hope for the church, we [this show is] Essence of the season. ”
“If you get through it and have fun, please let someone else know that you enjoyed it. Let others know it’s out there and share it with your community,” she added. Ta. “like this Touched by an angel The song became a hit because people shared it through their churches. So I hope the same thing happens here baxters. ”
Downey explained that she drew on her own experiences as a parent when portraying her character, Elizabeth Baxter.
Downey said, “I approached this work with the heart of a mother.”
“We see Elizabeth Baxter as a very loving, caring, empathetic mother, a mother who loves her children fiercely,” she said. “We see her being amazingly strong and fierce, like a mother lion. But what I liked most about her is that she is a prayer warrior. When the going gets tough… , Tough begins to pray. We see how she jumps in hand in hand, praying with her husband and for her children who may be worried. ”
She also complimented me baxters The film was praised for its portrayal of a family that attends church, prays together, and supports each other through life’s trials.
“As a person of faith myself, I love seeing people of faith celebrated on screen, but we don’t see that often,” Downey said. “We can’t meet families who go to church. We can’t meet families who can stop in the middle of a scene and pray in the name of Jesus. I believe that audiences of faith are coming from all over the country. In fact, I think there are people all over the world.”People around the world will enjoy seeing families with the values we hold dearest reflected on screen.
“That’s not to say people who don’t share your faith aren’t welcome. Of course, this show is made for everyone,” she added. “But as Christians, I think it’s rare that we get to see families and family dynamics like this. I hope this film brings hope and gives people great memories.” He will bring people back home. To Him.”
Through her company Lightworkers, she believes Hollywood is becoming more aware of faith-based and family series.
“We’ve been creating content in this space for a long time, but we feel like it’s really starting to gain traction,” she said. “People in positions of power at studios and networks are coming together and really starting to understand that there’s a business here because no one is running a hobby. And they have a complete sense of mission about it. I don’t know if anyone has one, but for whatever reason, it’s like, ‘They’re making it, it’s being made, and it’s being made well. ”
“I think in the past, we would participate out of spite because we felt we had to support projects like that, but now we participate because the work is really good, the story is good, the quality is good. “This is a faith project. There’s no excuse for bad programming. Christian audiences are sophisticated audiences and they expect quality content. I think we’re witnessing it. It’s exciting to see so many successful films.”
