Kyle Busch Remembered at the Indianapolis 500
Kyle Busch’s legacy will be honored during the Indianapolis 500.
Romain Grosjean, driving for Dale Coyne Racing, has paid tribute to the iconic Busch, who recently died from severe pneumonia. It was quite sudden and shocking.
Grosjean will race the No. 18 car, which Busch used for most of his career. Interestingly, the font on Grosjean’s car has been adjusted to reflect the style Busch employed.
Adam Stern from Sports Business Journal shared the news and even posted a photo of Grosjean’s Honda as it heads into the race. Fox Sports and Joe Gibbs Racing, who partnered with Busch for 14 years, assisted in redesigning the car.
While it’s true that Busch never got the chance to compete in IndyCar’s top event, he’ll still be remembered there. During lap 18 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the pylons will be illuminated, allowing teams to display the No. 8 decal—Busch’s final career number.
Busch’s family announced his tragic passing on Thursday, revealing that his pneumonia had worsened to sepsis, leading to serious complications.
Initially, Busch was hospitalized due to what his family described as a severe illness. Reports indicate that the day before he died, Busch became unresponsive while testing a racing simulator in Concord, North Carolina.
A statement released by Busch’s family alongside Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR reflected on his exceptional talent, noting, “Kyle, a future Hall of Famer, possesses a rare talent that comes only once in a generation.”
They described him as fierce, passionate, and deeply caring about the sport and its fans. Over more than two decades, Busch set numerous records in National Series wins, clinched championships at NASCAR’s highest level, and played a pivotal role in shaping future drivers as a Truck Series owner.
His competitive spirit and sharp humor fostered a strong emotional bond with fans, creating a dedicated following known as ‘Rowdy Nation.’
