Romanian gymnast Ana Barbos broke her silence on Sunday after the International Olympic Committee ordered American Jordan Chiles to return her bronze medal.
Barbos could win the bronze medal amid the controversy surrounding her floor exercise final at the Paris Olympics last week. The Center for Sport Arbitration ruled that a U.S. investigation into the Chilean skater’s score had exceeded its one-minute deadline and that her score of 13.666 should be reinstated. That would drop Barbos to fifth place behind Romania’s Sabrina Mancer-Boinea.

Barbos’ message came after the IOC’s decision and before the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee planned to appeal. USA Gymnastics said it had evidence the investigation reached the judges twice in due time. Barbos blamed the judges for the uproar.
“Sabrina, Jordan, I’m thinking of you. I’ve been through the same thing so I know how you feel but I know you will come back stronger,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I truly hope that at the next Olympics all three of us will be on the same podium. That is my true dream.”
“If those responsible had respected the rules, this situation would not have happened. We the athletes are not to be blamed and the hatred directed towards us is painful. I wanted to end the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the spirit of Olympism, a true global value.”
