The Mets and Yankees meet on Tuesday and Wednesday in part two of the Subway Series.
The Mets beat the Yankees in Queens last month and now they’re heading to the Bronx.
The Yankees have struggled over the past month but still hold the lead in the AL wild card position.
The Mets have turned around a season in which they were 11 games under .500 and are currently tied for third place in the National League wild card standings.
Former Mets pitcher and SNY analyst Ron Darling joined Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman on “The Show” this week to analyze the Mets’ side of the rivalry.
What to do before the deadline? What does Pete Alonso’s future hold?

“The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:
- Yankees’ Problems: Their offense needs to wake up outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Their offense is not good outside of those two. What will they do at the trade deadline?
- Mets Plans: The Braves are injured and vulnerable. The Mets should try. The wild card race is a close one. The bullpen will be a major focus, but the outfield could be a contender.
Ron Darling Interview:
Former Mets pitcher, SNY analyst
- Mets Deadline: We need to get a left-handed pitcher for the bullpen. We need bullpen pitchers.
- Pete Alonso: It’s hard to be a home run hitter in the final year of a contract. There’s a lot of pressure on him. Pete is valuable to the organization. In baseball, a guy who hits home runs at first base wasn’t considered very important.
- Pitching injuries: Players need to rest from pitching during the offseason in November and December.
- Mets pitchers: What has been the key to Luis Severino’s success this year? How well has Sean Manaea performed?
- Best Booth: Gary Cohen is the custodian of Mets history and is better equipped for the job than anyone. Keith Hernandez has great comedic timing. I understood Michael Kay’s pain of having to read about the best booth in baseball. Keith makes Booth feel relaxed and not overly nerdy.
