Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has invited Daniel Penny, the New Yorker and former Marine who was acquitted in Jordan Neely's death, to move to the Sunshine State to “get his life back.”
In response to an X post from Ryan James Gardusky, DeSantis welcomed Daniel Penny to Florida.
“So where does Daniel Penny go to get his life back?” Gardusky asked.
“Florida,” DeSantis responded.
As Breitbart News reported this week, 26-year-old former U.S. Marine Daniel Penny was found not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the 2023 killing of Jordan Neely. The incident occurred on the F train at East Houston and Lafayette. street station after Neely was reportedly seen throwing trash and yelling at passengers with threats of violence. Neely had a history of mental health problems and was a frequent guest on the station as a Michael Jackson impersonator. He also had a warrant for his arrest on a charge of felony assault.
Penny claimed that she was only trying to subdue Neely to protect the passengers on the train whose lives were in danger. During the trial, several witnesses testified to corroborate his story.
Penney said in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday that New York City failed to protect its citizens, which led to Jordan Neely's death.
“He just threatened to kill people. He was threatening to go to prison forever, go to prison for the rest of his life. And now I'm on the ground with him, lying on my back in a very vulnerable position. If I had let go now, he would have turned around,'' Penny said.
“I would go to court a million times and accept that people would say bad things about me and that people would hate me, just to make sure one of them didn't get hurt or killed,” he said. added. “These are their policies and I'm not trying to get political. I don't really want to make enemies, in fact I think I already have. But what I'm saying is: These are their policies that clearly aren't working, and even though the people, the general public, don't support them, their egos are too big to just admit that they're wrong. .”
