Ron Washington bans cellphones in Angels clubhouse

Ron Washington is beginning to sound like New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The Angels skipper enacted a mobile phone in the clubhouse rules during spring training.

Washington hopes that his decision will allow Ballclub to focus more on baseball.

This is the rule that he intends to maintain once the regular season begins.

“Now, the rules have been extended outside the clubhouse,” Washington told reporters. According to Athletics. “Now they're in the hallway here [right outside of the team’s clubhouse]. Now it will completely get out of the Goddam Clubhouse [building].

“That's not a punishment. I just want the focus.”

Washington said he had not received pushbacks from players, adding that it was an order he introduced during his 2007-14 period when he was in charge of the Rangers.

Outfielder Mike Trout and pitcher Kyle Hendrix are responsible for lining up the rest of the team as they will be tasked with setting the amount that players will be fined if they break the rules.

Washington had proposed $500 for the fine. It's the same as used in Texas.

However, it is up to the players to decide the final amount.

“That clubhouse is for veterans on this team to do it the way they want to do it,” Washington said. “We've dropped what we want to happen [with cellphones] And we want them to make sure it happens inside the clubhouse. ”

But Washington is not only paying the rules, but not binding itself to the same standards.

“If I'm outside [my office] I want them to ring my ass in the clubhouse on the phone,” he said.
