Ronald Acuna brings excitement in his much-anticipated return to the Braves.

Ronald Acuña Jr. Returns with a Bang

Ronald Acuña Jr. had a memorable day on Friday. After nearly a year away from the game due to an ACL injury last May, the 27-year-old made his long-awaited return. In his first major league game back, he hit a home run to left field right on the very first pitch, initiating the Braves’ scoring against the Padres.

As he rounded the bases, Acuña celebrated in a style reminiscent of Grizzlies Point Guard Ja Morant.

Morant shared a clip of Acuña’s home run on his X account, adding some fire emojis to express his excitement.

Unfortunately for Acuña, the Braves couldn’t capitalize on his effort; his early homer was their only score in a loss to the Padres. Earlier that month, on May 13, he had appeared in his first rehab game for the Braves’ Florida Complex League team after being sidelined.

The four-time All-Star had been recovering since tearing his left ACL while stealing second base in a game against the Pirates.

This recent injury marked the second time Acuña has faced an ACL tear in his career. He largely missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to a similar injury to his right knee—sustained during a game against the Marlins four years ago.

He made a remarkable comeback, being named the 2023 NL MVP after achieving a .337 batting average and becoming the first player to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases since Alfonso Soriano in 2006.

Braves manager Brian Snitker expressed his enthusiasm for having Acuña back on the team.

“He’s one of those guys you don’t want to miss a moment from. He brings a special energy,” Snitker said before the game. “I truly believe he’s that kind of player—he tries to energize everyone around him.”

Teammate Austin Riley shared Snitker’s sentiment, noting how significant Acuña’s return was for the team.

“It’s a big deal,” Riley stated. “His talent is undeniable, and having him at the top of the lineup changes everything. He can turn a game around.”
