Contract Extension for Ronald Donkor
Midfielder Ronald Donkor has officially extended his contract with Red Bull New York for three and a half years, which means he’ll be in Harrison, New Jersey, until the end of the 2029-30 MLS season.
Currently, Donkor is in the last year of his original contract. His new agreement includes an option that could carry him through the 2030-31 season.
Julian de Guzman, the Head of Sport for the Red Bulls, expressed enthusiasm about the extension, noting, “Ronnie has grown into a key player for us, and we’re thrilled to keep him long-term. He’s a diligent worker who really gives everything for the club, and we look forward to seeing his continued success.”
April was a notable month for Donkor, as he scored his first-ever MLS goal during a dramatic 4-4 draw against DC United. Interestingly, Jurgen Klopp, the renowned football manager, was present at that match.
Hailing from Accra, Ghana, Donkor has started 14 games this season, which is a personal record, and he has also reached a career high in assists (4) and total minutes played (1,183).
In a conversation with reporters back in April, he appreciated the guidance of new head coach Michael Bradley and assistant coach Ibrahim Sekagya, saying, “These are the people who made me who I am today. Even when things get tough, they’re there to motivate me and keep me moving forward.”
Bradley also spoke highly of Donkor, calling him an “integral part” of the team this season and emphasized that he has a bright future ahead.
Donkor began his journey in football in Mali, playing for Giders FC. His contract extension arrives at a time when the MLS season is on break due to the World Cup.
Despite a shaky start to the 2026 season, the Red Bulls managed to gather points in their last four matches, including three wins. They currently hold the 5th position in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 6 wins, 5 losses, and 4 draws over 15 games.
