Ronda Rousey Set to Return to MMA

Ronda Rousey, often dubbed “The Baddest Woman on Earth,” is making a comeback. After an absence from mixed martial arts since December 30, 2016, she’ll step back into the cage on May 16 to face Gina Carano.

Rousey made history as the first woman to join the UFC, and she adeptly defended the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship six times before retiring in 2016, after which she transitioned to WWE full-time.

At age 39, Rousey is set to return to action at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. She expressed her excitement, saying, “This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. There will be more to come.”

Carano, who has not fought since 2009 and has been focused on acting, shared her enthusiasm about the upcoming match. “Ronda came to me and said there was only one person she could come back against. It’s an honor,” Carano noted. She recalled the support from Rousey in their early careers and emphasized the significance of this fight for both the fans and the MMA community.

The match is to be broadcast on Netflix via Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, known for promoting notable boxing events. Paul and his partner Nakisa Bidalian commented, highlighting Rousey and Carano as pivotal figures in women’s MMA. They mentioned how their organization aims to create unforgettable experiences for fans across generations.

Rousey started her career with an impressive record of 12-0 but faced defeats in her last two bouts against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. Interestingly, nine of her wins were finished in under 70 seconds, and she secured all but one victory in the first round.
