Being a Texan who can trace her lineage to before it was even a state, going to the Texas State Fair every year as a child was a way of life. Now, thanks to the Democrat control of Dallas and feckless Republicans, it’s no longer a safe, fun place to take children.
Growing up, Texas private and public schools were given free tickets to the Texas State Fair to hand out to students. Kids got a day off from school to enjoy carnival rides, games, exotic exhibits, freshly squeezed lemonade and the always delicious Fletcher’s corndog with their families. Every fall, from the moment the gates opened until they closed, families would line up in front of the fair’s mascot, Big Tex, to take their picture. It was a quintessential part of Texas heritage but has now become a sad reminder of everything we’ve lost.
I grew up going to the @StateFairOfTX
Nothing like a Fletchers corn dog.
It’s sad I can’t take my girls because of how dangerous it’s gotten. Now they won’t even let us defend ourselves from the mayhem they allow. https://t.co/GVTb1C5fIj

Dallas, Texas, like most blue cities, is plagued with homelessness, violence and all the typical social breakdowns other Democrat-controlled cities experience in America. The roads are terrible. It’s dirty in all the usual places. Safety is an afterthought. This attitude extends to events, including the historic Texas State Fair. Over the last decade, it’s been ripe with gangs of unruly teens and adults and crime, including a shooting in 2023 in one of the food halls, making it a dangerous outing for any family.
Instead of making it safer by kicking out attendees who jeopardize families or dealing with the rising crime, organizers used the shooting to demonize lawful gun owners. Cameron Turner, the man who allegedly shot a gun in the crowded food hall and wounded three people, did not have a license to carry his gun. Still, the State Fair of Texas, with the permission of the Democrat-controlled Dallas City Council, announced that licensed gun owners were not allowed to carry a gun on state fairgrounds. Despite appeals from over 70 Republican elected officials, Republican state Supreme Court Justice Jimmy Blacklock, who was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court in January 2018 by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, ruled on the side of the gun-grabbing left, stripping Texans of their right to defend themselves.
Useless Republicans declare open season on people attending @StateFairOfTX. That evening walk to the car in Fair Park just got more dangerous for families, safer for criminals. https://t.co/W3H4cjm4ZM

You know the saying, “Everything woke turns to sh*t?” Well, in Texas, “Everything touched by a RINO eventually crumbles.”
Taking licensed Texans’ guns away isn’t going to prevent someone from using a fairground food hall as target practice. All it will do is make it impossible for families to protect themselves when criminals of the world come knocking.
It’s incredibly sad that my children will likely never know what going to the state fair is like.
