McIlroy’s Mixed Feelings Ahead of PGA Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rory McIlroy wasn’t feeling quite like he imagined as he prepared to tee off for the third round of the PGA Championship on Saturday.

This was not a triumphant follow-up to his Masters win last month at Augusta.

When he arrived in Charlotte earlier this week, McIlroy was riding high, reflecting on his greatest achievements and hitting all the career milestones he had ever wished for. He expressed this sentiment during a pre-tournament media session on Wednesday.

“I’ve achieved everything I aimed for,” he stated. “I’ve done what I dreamed of as a kid—being the best player in the world and winning majors. I’ve accomplished that. Anything else from here on is just a bonus, regardless of how long I choose to keep playing.”
