Rory McIlroy, who tied for 22nd place at the Masters Tournament, arrived in Hilton Head, South Carolina, amid rumors.
Reports on Monday said McIlroy would jump to LIV Golf for a staggering $850 million. He will also receive a 2% stake in Circuit.
However, the rumor was confirmed by McIlroy himself and turned out to be false.
McIlroy told Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis. I reaffirmed my sense of intimacy with him. on the PGA Tour ahead of this week’s RBC Heritage, the fifth signature event of the 2024 season.
“It wasn’t even a conversation for us. It’s a shame we have to deal with it. [these rumors]This is the state of our game,” McIlroy said.
“I plan to play on the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.”
Irish independent newspaper quoted this rumor It was reported as “fake news” early Tuesday. At the time, McIlroy’s manager Sean O’Flaherty added to the report, suggesting there was “zero truth to it”.
“Honestly, I don’t know how these things start,” McIlroy said.
“LIV has never given me a phone number and I have never considered going to LIV. Again, it has become clear over the last two years that this is not something special to me. I’m not criticizing the people who went there and played. One thing I’ve realized over the last two years is that people can make their own decisions.”
