Rosie O’Donnell considers moving back to New York from Dublin after celebrating a wave of Democratic victories in the midterm elections

Rosie O’Donnell says she is considering a return to New York after celebrating the midterm election results from Ireland, where she moved after Donald Trump won a second presidential term in 2024.

Though she enjoys life in Dublin, O’Donnell said she misses having her family nearby. She also misses her adult children and her grandson, who was born six months ago. She said she feels she has already missed much of his early life and doesn’t want to miss more.

O’Donnell has four children with her former wife Kelli Carpenter and one child with her late former wife Michelle Rounds.

In a TikTok video, O’Donnell celebrated Democratic gains in the midterms, including winning control of the House and a majority in the Senate. She called it a joyful morning and said she had believed the results would go that way.

She said voters had turned out to send Trump and those she described as his “partners in cruelty” a clear message, adding that the country had had enough.

O’Donnell said she went to bed early in Dublin on election night because she was too anxious to stay awake. Around 3 a.m., messages began arriving on her phone, and she said she started to cry.

She described feeling overwhelmed and said she got up, showered and put on a blue sweater to mark the day. O’Donnell said she was proud of the country and condemned what she called unconstitutional and un-American actions by the administration.

“Let the investigations begin,” she said, calling the moment a glorious day.

The White House responded by calling O’Donnell “a nasty woman and a total slob” and saying that Trump Derangement Syndrome had destroyed her brain.

Earlier this year, O’Donnell guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show. In her final opening monologue, she thanked viewers and Kimmel, and referred to Trump as “orange Voldemort.” She also defended the right to free speech.

O’Donnell and Trump have publicly criticized each other for years. In 2025, after she moved to Ireland, Trump threatened to revoke her U.S. citizenship.

Their feud dates back to 2006, when O’Donnell criticized Trump on “The View” over his decision to go easy on a Miss USA winner who had faced allegations of drug use and other misconduct.
