Marco Rubio’s Trip to Uzbekistan and India

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has begun his journey to Uzbekistan and India with the goal of enhancing economic ties and commercial collaboration between the U.S. and these Asian nations.

In Uzbekistan, he will participate in the C5+1 Ministerial, which aims to bolster relations between the U.S. and Central Asia, as noted by the U.S. Department of State.

“In Uzbekistan, Secretary Rubio will participate in the C5+1 Ministerial to highlight how strategic cooperation through this diplomatic platform promotes a more peaceful and prosperous future for the United States and the countries of Central Asia,” a State Department spokesperson said in a statement.

The initial meeting of the foreign ministers of the C5—comprising Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—was held over a decade ago in Samarkand, according to the State Department.

Prior to his departure to Samarkand on Saturday, Rubio spoke with reporters at Joint Base Andrews, clarifying the rationale for this trip.

“It was the date that worked to get all five of the leaders together, all five of the foreign ministers from the five countries,” he noted.

During his visit, Rubio is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with high-ranking officials from all five C5 nations. He will also lead a U.S. commercial delegation with over 200 business leaders aimed at promoting commercial cooperation.

His week-long visit to Asia, spanning from October 17 to 22, includes stops in Mumbai and Jamnagar, India, which marks his second official visit to the country this year. His agenda includes strengthening the strategic partnership between the U.S. and India, discussing regional and global issues, and exploring avenues for enhanced collaboration in the energy sector. Additionally, Rubio plans to meet with business leaders to advocate for investment opportunities and economic cooperation.

“Just departed for Uzbekistan and India to continue securing the Trump Administration’s economic opportunities for our nation,” Rubio shared on social media.
