Vance defends Trump administration’s fight against corruption
Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson has discussed the Trump administration’s initiative to combat fraud, emphasizing that billions in payments were successfully blocked and hundreds of people prosecuted. He claimed that some blue states hinder these efforts by restricting data access, which, in turn, allows fraud to continue. Meanwhile, Department of Labor Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito pointed out that H-1B visa fraud is a means of supporting international criminal organizations and human trafficking, underlining the gravity of these issues.
On Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced new visa restrictions aimed at foreign nationals involved in cybercrime. “This policy focuses on individuals responsible for cyber fraud and related crimes,” Rubio noted in a statement.
Rubio mentioned that immediate family members of those affected might also be included under these new visa policies. Earlier this year, President Trump signed an executive order titled “Combat Cybercrime, Fraud, and Predatory Schemes Against the American People,” instructing federal agencies to devise strategies against foreign fraud centers and cyber-related financial wrongdoing.
The Rubio administration, in its announcement, expressed a commitment to addressing the “unprecedented threat” posed by online investment fraud.
Rubio highlighted the alarming fact that fraudsters, particularly those linked to Chinese criminal organizations, are projected to scam Americans out of around $10 billion in 2024 alone. This situation is fueling corruption and human trafficking. He also mentioned how American children are especially vulnerable to sextortion scams, causing significant harm to families.
In conclusion, Rubio stated that the administration is utilizing all available resources—sanctions, prosecutions, asset seizures, and collaboration with international law enforcement—to dismantle these criminal networks. “With these visa restrictions, we are making it clear that the U.S. will act against those who take advantage of our citizens,” he affirmed.
