Rubio throws support behind Trump in 2024 in snub to DeSantis

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) announced his support for former President Trump on Sunday, effectively ignoring the state's 2024 governor, Ron DeSantis.

in Post to XRubio, who was previously active on Twitter, slammed the Biden administration's record and argued that Trump's “extraordinary actions” were needed to “repair the mess” of the country.

“When President Trump was at WH, I was able to accomplish key policies that I had been working on for years, such as expanding the child tax credit and tough sanctions on the regimes in Cuba and Venezuela, because I didn’t have to give in to special interests. Because we had a president who wouldn't let bureaucrats get in his way,'' Rubio wrote in a post about X.

“I support Trump because such leadership is the only way we will get the extraordinary action needed to resolve the devastation Biden has caused. Defeat Biden and Save America.” It's time to start working!'' he continued.

Rubio ran against President Trump in 2016, a campaign that was at times controversial. The senator dropped out after losing the Florida primary.

Mr. Rubio's support comes after Florida Sen. Rick Scott pledged to withdraw from the race last November and endorsed Mr. That means choosing Trump instead.

In Florida, Mr. Trump maintains a significant lead over his Republican rivals, including Mr. DeSantis. Mr. Trump has a 42.1 percentage point lead over Mr. DeSantis, 61% to 18.8%, according to The Hill and Decision Desk Headquarters polling index. The Sunshine State Republican primary will be held on March 19th.

Rubio's endorsement came one day before the Iowa caucuses and just hours after North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who also ran against Trump in 2024, endorsed the former president at a rally in the Hawkeye State. I was disappointed.

Trump has a 34.9-point lead over the front-runner, Iowa's former ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, according to a poll compiled by Hill & Decision Desk Headquarters. In the Hawkeye State, DeSantis was close to Haley, with an approval rating of about 15.5% to Haley's 17.9%. Mr. Trump's approval rating is approximately 52.8%.

DeSantis and Haley appeared on Sunday morning political shows Sunday to express confidence ahead of the Iowa caucuses, even though they are far behind the former president in a series of polls.
