Tennessee Basketball Player’s Legal Update

Ruby Whitehorn, a player for the Tennessee women’s basketball team, recently pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors following a domestic incident last month. Initially facing felony charges related to robbery and domestic assault, those charges were dismissed by a judge last Friday.

Whitehorn entered her plea on charges of aggravated trespassing and vandalism. Her attorney, Gregory Isaacs, mentioned that after thorough efforts and investigation, they were able to reach a favorable legal agreement. He emphasized Whitehorn’s commitment to focusing on her academic and athletic responsibilities at the University of Tennessee.

Details from court records indicate that the victim reported seeing Whitehorn outside her home and went outside after hearing glass breaking. In the ensuing altercation, she was attempting to retrieve her loose dog when things escalated.

The victim stated that she ran back into her home with what she thought was her phone, only to later discover it was actually Whitehorn’s phone. Allegedly, Whitehorn kicked in the front door and pursued her upstairs. Once the victim secured herself in her bedroom, Whitehorn reportedly kicked that door as well, breaking a mirror and retrieving her phone before leaving.

However, Whitehorn contends that the victim initiated the confrontation in the parking lot while she was trying to leave, claiming she was only acting in self-defense to reclaim her phone.

Isaacs also pointed out that eyewitness testimonies did not align with the victim’s claims. Following her arrest, Whitehorn was suspended indefinitely from the team. The university has yet to clarify if that suspension remains in effect.

Isaacs noted that if Whitehorn participates in anger management classes and avoids further legal issues, her record could potentially be cleared in a year’s time. Heading into her senior season, Whitehorn averaged 11.6 points per game last year, and this was her second season with the Volunteers after transferring from Clemson.
