Rudy Giuliani Out of ICU Following Pneumonia Hospitalization
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being hospitalized over the weekend due to pneumonia. He is now recovering in the hospital, though still under care.
His spokesperson, Ted Goodman, shared the news on social media, updating the public about Giuliani’s situation.
“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the ICU and will spend some time recovering before leaving the hospital,” Goodman stated. “The mayor and his family appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers sent his way.”
He added, “Mayor Giuliani—the man who took down the Mafia, saved New York City, and ran toward the towers on September 11th—is the same fighter he’s always been, and he’s winning this fight. The power of prayer is working. The mayor feels it. We feel it. Please keep them coming for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani.”
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that Giuliani, who is 81 years old, had been in critical condition. The hospitalization was due to a pneumonia diagnosis complicated by restrictive airway disease, which stemmed from his exposure to toxins during the aftermath of the September 11 attacks in 2001.
At that time, Giuliani frequently visited Ground Zero during the three months following the tragic collapse of the Twin Towers.
A priest visited Giuliani on Tuesday to administer last rites, a set of Catholic sacraments meant for those nearing death, including prayers and anointing.
By Monday, Giuliani’s spokesperson noted that he was breathing independently, without the need for mechanical assistance.
He will continue to receive monitoring and treatment while in the hospital.
