On Saturday night, as National Rugby League took center stage in Las Vegas, manly Warringah Sea Eagles star Reuben Garrick took a page from New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski’s book.

Garrick spiked his boot to stop a try in his team’s 36-24 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs and told reporters after the game that he was trying to get the American crowd excited.

“I told some of the players this week that if they were lucky enough to try it out, they would try the ‘Gronk Spike,'” he said via the NRL website. “I loved watching him play a few years ago and he was really cool.

“I just hope we get a shout-out from Gronk,” he added. “I think we needed to promote that too. And for a lot of us, it doesn’t come naturally to us to do that unless it’s a month of tri celebration, but I think when you’re in the U.S. .”

The Sea Eagles became the first NRL team to win a National League regular season premiership match. Manly held a narrow lead at half-time, but Daly Cherry-Evans and Luke Brooks broke the gap. Manly’s scoring attack resulted in four consecutive tries, contributing to the victory.
