NYC Bakery Run: Sweet Treats and Sweat

Runners were definitely sweetening things up.

A group of 100 sprinters took to the streets of Manhattan and Brooklyn for a half marathon that included stops at nearly a dozen local bakeries on Sunday.

The NYC Bakery Run involved a 13.1-mile course, fueled by carbs from eight different bakeries along the way, featuring tempting cream-filled croissants.

The race kicked off at 9 am in Bushwick, crossing the Williamsburg Bridge into Manhattan, then back across the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn Heights.

Along the route, participants stopped at spots like Nosch for pastries and sandwiches from popular places such as Raf’s Bakery and La Bicycleette, not to mention the delicious hand pies from L’Appartement 4f.

Bakers greeted runners with beautifully crafted croissants and flaky pastries, leaving some athletes momentarily speechless.

Others formed lines at Lacabra Bakery in Bushwick, eagerly eyeing the much-loved loaves on offer.

Though some might have thought it a little embarrassing, the runners didn’t hold back; after a carb-loading break, they were all smiles.

With full stomachs, they got back on the pavement in no time.

Even with the snacks weighing them down, they quickly returned to the race.

The event featured waves for different skill levels, starting with advanced runners, followed by intermediate and novice participants.

This bakery run was a first for New York, as reported by media company Tipster.

Tipster founder Simon Evers mentioned in a press release that the event showcases how “a new generation of bakeries is redefining the city’s baking culture.”

He added that the NYC Bakery Run combines running—an everyday ritual for many New Yorkers—with the excitement of baked goods, and the response has been incredible.

Similar events, referred to as Vanlant, have previously taken place in Copenhagen and are expanding to cities like London, Mexico City, and Amsterdam.
