Things got ugly between Clippers star Russell Westbrook and Timberwolves fans before Sunday's game in Minneapolis.
One source said the veteran point guard, wearing a Minnesota jersey, confronted a heckling fan during warmups and told him to “sit down.” Videos posted by TikTok users Mr. Jackson (@nagashiajackson).
Westbrook can be seen standing courtside under the basket with a basketball and motioning for fans to come over.
“Come here,” Westbrook said. “I can't hear you. Come here.”
That's when Westbrook started walking toward the fans.
“What do you say?” he asked. “what?”
Fans were seen pretending to shoot and saying “basketball”.
A security guard then approached and appeared to try to pull Westbrook away.
“Okay…you better calm down,” the 35-year-old former NBA MVP said.
“I'm not that person. I'm not that person.”
Westbrook walked away and continued to look back at the fans.
The nine-time All-Star had 11 points, two rebounds and four assists in the Clippers' 109-105 loss on Sunday.
This wasn't the first time Westbrook had faced off against a heckling fan during pregame warmups.
Two years ago, during a similar situation in Minneapolis, Westbrook, then playing for the Lakers, walked up to a fan who called him “Westbrick.” This was the infamous nickname some gave him during his playing days when he struggled offensively. Lakers tenure.
The Clippers (26-14) will take a few days off before hosting the Brooklyn Nets (16-23) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
