Buffalo – Russell Wilson made his debut with the Giants, leading a 12-play, 30-yard drive that culminated in a field goal to kick off the game against the Bills on Saturday. He was efficient, completing six of seven passes for 28 yards, primarily utilizing his tight end and running back for short throws.
However, Wilson’s time on the field was brief, as he exited after that series, making way for rookie Jackson Dart. It’s worth noting that last season, even with quarterbacks like Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito, and Drew Locke, the Giants struggled significantly on their opening drives.
Interestingly, Wilson’s manager, Brian Daboll, made decisions to proceed without three of his top four receivers—Malik Neighbors, Darius Slayton, and Jarin Hyatt didn’t make the trip, which was definitely a curious choice.
Neighbors and Slayton have been nursing injuries, so it really could have been a great chance for Hyatt to gain some confidence during the game. But his absence was puzzling, to say the least.
The offensive line mostly resembled what we’ve seen in training camps, featuring players like James Hudson, John Lunyan Jr., John Michael Schmitz, Greg Van Roten, and Jermaine Eluemunor.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas was unable to participate, and right guard Evan Neal missed this game due to an injury sustained on Wednesday.
Hudson had a rough moment, drawing two penalties in a row that hindered the drive right after they crossed midfield. Meanwhile, Wan’Dale Robinson made an 11-yard catch on a comeback route, which was nice to see since he hasn’t been too active in recent seasons. On the other hand, Tyrone Tracy Jr. was involved in the action early on, touching the ball on the first four plays, including a fourth and one run.
