Russell Wilson has moved from being the starting quarterback to the third-string position for the New York Giants just a few weeks into the 2025 season. Still, many people wonder if the 10-time Pro Bowler will return to play next season.
At 37, Wilson appears optimistic about his future, expressing a desire to continue playing in 2026. “I didn’t blink,” he stated, mentioning confidence in his abilities, and reflecting on a performance that he believes showcased his potential. He wants to be ready and in good health to play football again.
Wilson signed a one-year contract worth $10.5 million with the Giants, which includes a significant bonus if he plays throughout the season. This offseason, the Giants also drafted Jackson Dart as a first-round pick, who displayed impressive skills during training camp, making it clear he’s ready for the NFL.
Despite Dart’s strong performance, former head coach Brian Daboll chose to begin the season with Wilson. However, after three games without a win, the situation changed. In Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Dart stepped in and not only secured his first win but also established himself as the starting quarterback.
Even with the shift, Wilson is maintaining a positive attitude. In a recent interview after practice, he conveyed his support for Dart and acknowledged the team’s direction.
In three games this season, Wilson’s stats include 831 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, with his interceptions notably occurring in a tight Week 2 overtime loss, where he threw for 450 yards. He also disclosed an injury—he tore his hamstring during practice just before a game against the Cowboys.
He described the experience, saying he had to make the tough decision to play despite the injury. “I couldn’t tell anyone,” Wilson recalled, emphasizing his commitment to compete regardless of the circumstances. He sought treatment but felt the need to be on the field.
Moving forward, it remains to be seen whether Wilson will find a new opportunity and if any team would consider him for a starting role again.
