The Steelers will start Russell Wilson in Week 1.
After an offseason battle with Justin Fields, the nine-time Pro Bowl selection has been named the Steelers' starting quarterback, head coach Mike Tomlin announced Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Wilson was released by the Broncos after two seasons under his contract, and the Broncos used $85 million in dead cap space to release Wilson and trade him to Pittsburgh in March.
That same month, the Steelers acquired Fields, a 2021 first-round draft pick who spent the past three seasons with the Bears.
Wilson appeared in 15 games last year and threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
He was benched for the final two games and replaced by Jarrett Stidham.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Fields threw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 games last year.
The Steelers open the season on the road against the Falcons on September 8th.
