Wilson’s Influence Lingers as Giants Shift Focus
The era of Russell Wilson with the New York Giants might be coming to a close, but his positive influence on the team’s culture appears to linger. This week, the Giants plan to bench Wilson in favor of rookie quarterback Jackson Dart.
When Wilson joined the Giants, he had a clear goal: “helping the New York Giants win every day.” However, along the way, he also fostered a spirit of faith within the locker room.
Before the season began, Wilson mentioned to Fox News Digital that he and his teammates engaged in regular Bible studies. “We have a lot of people who are very strong in our faith,” he noted. “We do Bible studies as a group throughout the week. Every team has its own approach to these things, and we’re thankful for what we have.”
Wilson’s visibility as a Christian quarterback throughout his career has set a tone for those around him. Dart, who is also a devout Christian and the third Mormon quarterback in NFL history, looks to follow in those footsteps. Wilson shared his thoughts on Dart’s potential, saying, “Jackson is a really good worker. He’s a great teammate and had a solid college career.”
This past offseason, Wilson signed a one-year, $21 million contract. Meanwhile, Dart was selected as the 25th overall pick in the NFL Draft after a notable college career.
Reflecting on his own journey, Wilson remembers when he took over as the starting quarterback in Seattle back in 2012. At that time, veteran quarterback Matt Flynn had just signed a lucrative three-year deal, yet Wilson went on to secure the starting spot before the first game, leading the Seahawks to a successful season and a Super Bowl win shortly after.
Now, he finds himself in a different role, watching as Dart steps into the spotlight as the Giants’ starter against the Los Angeles Chargers this week. Both players seem to lean on their faith during this transition, navigating the challenges that come with their positions.
