Moscow officials say Russian forces thwarted a Ukrainian offensive in a province illegally annexed by the Kremlin, while Kiev accused Moscow of spreading misinformation.
Vladimir Rogov, a Russian official in Zaporizhia region in southeastern Ukraine, said fighting resumed in the region early Monday morning.
“The enemy carried out an even bigger attack than yesterday,” he said, adding that the Ukrainian attack was “larger and more organized.”
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a telegram that it had halted an offensive launched by Ukrainian forces in the southern Donetsk region. Reuters I got it.
“On the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a major offensive in five areas of the front line in the direction of South Donetsk,” the defense ministry said in a statement on Telegram, according to the news agency.
“The enemy’s goal was to penetrate our defenses in the most vulnerable sectors of the front line, in his opinion,” the statement said. “The enemy did not accomplish the task and did not succeed.”
But Ukraine has accused Russia of spreading misinformation without directly mentioning the attack Russia claims was orchestrated by Kiev.
Kiev has reportedly been planning a counterattack against Russian forces for months, and there are high hopes. Failure to achieve major advances against the Russian occupier could put Ukraine in danger of losing international support.
