Russian assault cuts power and heating to 800,000 homes in Ukraine.

On Thursday morning, around 800,000 homes in Ukraine faced power and heat outages following overnight attacks by Russia on energy infrastructure, according to the acting energy minister. Artem Nekrasov shared this information via the official Telegram channel of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, stating that the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhya regions were particularly affected.

Nekrasov mentioned that repair crews are working diligently to restore power and heat as quickly as possible. Although some power has been restored in the Zaporizhzhya region, many households in Dnipropetrovsk are still without services.

Authorities are advising residents to limit the use of high-consumption appliances to avoid further outages while repairs are ongoing. Power outages are also reported in several other areas, including Chernihiv, Kiev, Ivanofrankivsk, and Zakarpattia, largely due to adverse weather conditions.

The ongoing outages come at a time when temperatures in Kiev are expected to dip below minus 20 degrees Celsius during the night. President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the attacks, stating, “There is absolutely no military rationale for such an attack… This is Russia’s war against the lives of our people, especially Ukraine.”

These strikes happened shortly after Zelensky’s meetings in Paris with U.S. diplomatic representatives, discussing Russia’s efforts to negotiate a resolution to the ongoing conflict. The discussions were primarily centered on enhancing security, exploring ceasefire options, and outlining plans for Ukraine’s reconstruction within a wider peace initiative.
