Deadly Russian Drone and Missile Strike on Ternopil, Ukraine
A significant drone and missile strike from Russia targeted Ukraine, hitting the western city of Ternopil on Tuesday night. Tragically, over 20 individuals lost their lives, including three children.
According to Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, at least 25 people were killed and 73 others suffered injuries when two nine-story residential buildings were struck during the airstrikes.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported that the attacks involved over 470 drones and 48 missiles. Emergency services have been working tirelessly to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble and to extinguish fires that erupted from the strikes.
Images from the area depict shattered windows, charred walls of residential structures, and smoke rising as rescue teams cleared the debris.
Additionally, Zelenskiy noted that nine other regions in Ukraine faced damage, specifically pointing out critical infrastructure and energy facilities in Lviv, along with civilian structures in Kharkiv.
“Every bold attack on daily life shows that the pressure on Russia remains inadequate,” he remarked. He emphasized the need for effective sanctions and support for Ukraine, suggesting that enhancing air defense capabilities, combat aviation, and unmanned aerial vehicles could help save lives.
Meanwhile, Polish Operations Command indicated that following Russia’s missile and drone assaults, they scrambled fighter jets and bolstered their air defense systems as a precautionary measure to safeguard Polish airspace near the border.
