A Russian woman died of “genital rupture” after falling from a high-speed jet driven by her husband, authorities said.
Elena Spiryakova, 49, from Samara, near the Russia-Kazakhstan border, was enjoying a day on the Samara River with her husband Oleg, 52, in July when her husband accelerated and sped away. Then she fell into the river.
“After another turn, the woman was unable to continue on the jet ski and fell into the water, at which point her husband 'stepped on the accelerator,'” investigators now report.
She suffered severe “hydraulic injury.”
According to a report in the Russian news agency Baza, the impact of the fall caused a “water hammer” effect, which occurs when a fluid in motion stops or is forced to suddenly change direction, causing her to fall. It is said that she suffered genital rupture.
Uterine rupture can cause acute abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. According to the National Institutes of Health.
Spylyakova was rushed to a local hospital in the aftermath, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Oleg is now facing criminal charges for “manslaughter” and Spylyakova's family says a criminal case has been opened against him.
