Rwanda is in Initial Discussions with the Trump Administration to Take in Deportees

Rwandan officials have stated that East African nations are currently in the “initial phases” of discussions with the Trump administration regarding the acceptance of unnecessary exiles, following a recent agreement signed by Salvador with the US.

Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe mentioned in an interview last week, after his visit to Washington, D.C., that his government aims to “offer another chance for migrants facing difficulties worldwide.”

“We’re in talks with the US,” Nduhungirehe noted. He pointed out that, based on reports from state media, the situation hasn’t progressed enough for definitive plans to be established yet. “Discussions are still ongoing… it’s still very early,” he added.

At a cabinet meeting in late April, Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the US’s pursuit of other nations to accommodate deported criminal immigrants, as reported by Breitbart News.

“I stand by this decision. We are actively seeking countries willing to accept deportees from third countries,” Rubio stated. “Our goal is to collaborate with other nations and propose, ‘We’d like to send you some of these undesirable individuals. How do you feel about that?’ The further away they are from America, the more difficult it becomes for them to return.”

Salvador President Naibe Buquere has already consented to the deportation of various individuals, including over 250 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, as disclosed last month.

Buquere indicated that the United States is paying “rather low fees” to house exiles at the Centre for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) located outside San Salvador, according to Breitbart News.
