Ryan Garcia claims he’s ‘officially retired’ from boxing

Boxer Ryan Garcia said he was “officially retired” from boxing in a series of social media posts on Wednesday night amid several controversies in which he has been embroiled.

Only time will tell if the 25-year-old Garcia actually retires from the ring, but the post comes roughly two months after he defeated WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney by stunning majority decision at Barclays Center and just weeks after he was reportedly arrested in Beverly Hills on a criminal damage charge.

“I still train but I’m injured and people are fed up with it,” Garcia wrote in a post on X. “The sad thing is, I’m a great boxer, I entertain people, I knock people out. The sad thing is, [love] Boxing. I pray for you all. I hope you all have a great life.”

It was in the next post that Garcia (25-1, 20 knockouts) declared, “I am officially retired.”

In an earlier post on X, Garcia listed the challenges he has faced in his life in recent days.

In Garcia’s most recent controversy, he was arrested in early June after police were called to the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, California, following a report of an “intoxicated individual” after the hotel claimed he had caused property damage.

ESPN reported that Garcia caused $15,000 in damages.

This comes after ESPN revealed in May that Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance ostarine before his bout with Haney.

Tests were carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association before the match, but the results were not available until after the match. ESPN reported..

Prior to the fight and the positive PED test, he also announced his divorce and the birth of his second child on the same day in January.

Report from the boxing scene The New York State Athletic Commission indicated it plans to meet this week to determine the outcome of Garcia’s two positive tests for banned substances.

Garcia could face a fine or suspension and potentially even have his win over Haney overturned.
