Former Politico reporter Ryan Liza, whose ex-fiance Olivia Nutzi got caught up in a sexting scandal with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has suddenly announced an exit from the online outlet.
His first Please post for his new one “Telos News” Substack, Liza said he “recently left” the publication because he believed that “their style of political coverage has not met in an unprecedented moment of democratic danger we are facing.”
“This publication is my serious attempt at Washington’s crisis with a clear understanding of what is actually going on,” writes Liza, who has been political chief since 2019.
He pointed out that the new venture will be funded solely by readers.
“I’ve never written about the appeal of fundraising. Just entering this paragraph is deeply elicited for me. But I want to create a news community, not just a news outlet,” he said.
“That means I need your help. Specifically, please pay a subscription to show that you believe in this project.”
Elsewhere in his first post, Liza accused his former employers and other outlets of koing President Trump after he began to rip off his critics publicly and threaten legal action.
“We saw up close how easy it was for a media conglomerate to grow up before the Trump administration when the wrong people were in charge,” he wrote.
Liza robbed the outlet for choosing to send one of the reporters to a guest on stage at the Conservative Politico after Trump “attacked Politico for selling a subscription to the federal government.”
He described the meeting as “media sewerage sewers and cheerleading because of the degradation of democracy, or the degradation of coups, where some activists have publicly organized Trump’s unconstitutional third term.”
“My friend who worked in Iraq once tried to explain to me how psychologically misplaced a war that was psychologically confusing for soldiers for the first time in full-scale combat.
“It’s the psychology that seized many newsrooms, law firms and other elite institutions in Washington for months. You need to wake up.”
Liza’s current employer viscerality came after he was on leave late last year after accusing him of physical and sexual abuse in an awkward court battle after a former political reporter for a New York magazine late last year.
At the time, Politico had denied that the shakeup was connected to the Nazzy Kennedy story.
The controversy spill over public opinion when it was reported that Nuzzi had engaged in a month-long personal relationship with Kennedy while Nuzzi covered his independent presidential campaign.
The headline grabbing dispute between Liza and Nutzi ended in November when she chose to lower the lawsuit.
Liza returned to Politico in the aftermath, but he said he would no longer edit the high-profile newsletter.
“I will remain a Washington correspondent for Politico, but I will focus on detailed features, profiles and interviews.” He wrote in X at the time.
However, the reporter never made anything public in his name after returning home.
