Former New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were reportedly planning to end their relationship, as shared by her ex-fiancé. He claimed she became aware of their sexting, which complicated things significantly.
The assertion comes from Ryan Lizza, a former Politico reporter, in the latest part of his Substack series that dives into Nuzzi’s brief and tumultuous romance with Kennedy during his presidential campaign.
Lizza noted that Nuzzi and the 71-year-old Kennedy were looking forward to advancing their relationship after he dropped out of the race.
“Bobby and Olivia had plans to take their relationship further in Phoenix, Arizona, on August 23, 2024, following a rally for President Trump in nearby Glendale,” Lizza wrote on Substack.
“This was ideal timing. With Bobby no longer a candidate, media scrutiny would lessen, and, as Olivia later mentioned to me, he wouldn’t have Secret Service protection to complicate things (and likely Cheryl won’t be around either),” he continued, referring to Kennedy’s wife, Cheryl Hines.
However, according to Lizza, their intimate plans fell apart when they ended up scheduled to cover the same Trump rally, which led to her discovery of the surprising news.
“Olivia had to cancel the meeting with Bobby, who was about to be a notable figure in the Trump world, which turned out to be fortunate for her as she wrapped up her latest assignment,” Lizza noted.
In his recent chapters, Lizza claimed Nuzzi shifted from a “journalist to a political operative” for Kennedy during their affair. He mentioned she even had a vintage copy of “Brenda Starr, Girl Reporter” to give to him as a gift after their clandestine meeting.
Nuzzi eventually admitted to the affair. Still, in a memoir that followed a controversial profile written about Kennedy in October 2023, she referred to him only vaguely as a “politician.”
News about their secret meeting first surfaced in August 2024.
In the wake of these revelations, Lizza ended his engagement with Nuzzi, while Kennedy has consistently denied any relationship with her.
Now, Nuzzi’s position at Vanity Fair seems uncertain due to the allegations Lezza has made through his Substack series.
