Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham side eyeing second straight promotion

WREXHAM, Wales — Wrexham could get a new ending Saturday in Hollywood.

The Welsh side, co-owned by actor Ryan Reynolds, have been on the verge of successive promotions, this time to English football’s third tier and just two steps away from the Premier League.

Wrexham beat Forest Green at Racecourse Ground Stadium on Saturday and can guarantee promotion if both MK Dons and Barrow fail to win.

With three games remaining, Wrexham are second in League Two, four points behind Stockport. The top three teams will automatically be promoted to Ligue 1, with the next four teams taking part in the play-offs for the final promotion spot.

Forest Green has no intention of giving in. The team is at the bottom of the table and fighting to avoid relegation.

Mansfield hosts 4th placed MK Dons. Sixth-placed Barrow will play at Gillingham.

Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney purchased the little-known club in 2021 for $2.5 million.

Last season they won the National League title and returned to the English Football League, the third division below the Premier League, for the first time in 15 years.
