Ryan Wesley Routh smirks in mug shot just days after foiled Trump assassination attempt

The suspect in a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was seen grinning in a mugshot released by authorities on Wednesday night.

Suspect Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, of Hawaii, is seen sporting a defiant smile in an arrest photo released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Routh was charged with federal firearms violations for his role in the attempted attack on Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach on Sunday.

Routh was arrested shortly after the incident. AP

The suspected assassin was arrested by Secret Service agents as he was pointing an AK-47 over the perimeter fence of the golf course while Trump was one hole behind.

Officers opened fire, and Routh fled the scene in a vehicle before pulling the trigger. He was stopped on Interstate 95 and arrested a short time later.

President Trump said he was “safe and well” after the second assassination attempt in just over two months.
