Ryan Williams Affirms Commitment to Alabama
Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams had an impressive freshman year with the Crimson Tide, racking up 45 receptions for more than 800 yards across 13 games. However, his sophomore season in 2025 didn’t quite meet the expectations set by himself or fans, as he finished with 43 catches, totaling 636 yards and four touchdowns.
As Williams gears up for the College Football Playoff quarterfinals against Indiana, he faced questions regarding the transfer portal. He was quick to dismiss the notion of leaving Alabama, stating, “I’m an Alabaman through and through. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.”
Reflecting on the past season, he mentioned that it provided valuable lessons for growth as a player. In Alabama’s first playoff game against Oklahoma, he had a singular catch for just five yards, although the team did win the match 34-24.
Coach Karen DeBoer addressed concerns over Williams’ lack of targets in a previous matchup against Auburn. He clarified, “There’s actually nothing to read in there at all. The play wasn’t specifically designed for him. A lot of our offense doesn’t revolve around him either.” He added that, while there are plays crafted to feature Williams, many passing concepts simply didn’t connect with him during that game.
DeBoer acknowledged Williams is a key playmaker and emphasized the need for intentional usage in upcoming games, similar to what was seen with other players like Isaiah Horton. “Ryan prepares well every week,” DeBoer concluded, noting that this week would be no different.
The upcoming game against Indiana provides Williams a chance to showcase his skills once more and potentially turn his season around.
