Sabathia, Ichiro lead 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame class

The 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame class will represent New York.

CC Sabathia, in his first year of eligibility, and Billy Wagner, in his final year of voting, join newcomer Ichiro Suzuki as a trio of Hall of Famers with ties to the Big Apple.

In results released Tuesday, all three received more than 75 percent of the Baseball Writers Association of America's required votes. Carlos Beltran, a former Yankee and Met man, has so far fallen short of immortality.

Sabathia said he plans to put on a Yankees cap and enter the Hall after spending 11 years at the front of the rotation in the Bronx.

The left-handed Bulldog, who spent his first seven-and-a-half years in Cleveland and half in Milwaukee, was beloved, dependable and often dominant as he helped the Yankees win the 2009 World Series.

It took 10 years to qualify, but Wagner surpassed that standard.

The left-handed closer, who spent four years with the Mets, rose to 73.8 percent last year, but fell five votes short.

In his final attempt as voted on by the BBWAA, Wagner finished his career with 422 saves (8th all-time), an ERA of over 187 to confirm his excellence, and a record of 11.9 Ks-per-9 with 1,196 strikeouts in 903 innings. It will be enshrined after. This is the highest record for a pitcher with 900 innings.

There was far less drama surrounding Suzuki, and the only question was whether he would join Mariano Rivera, the only unanimous selection in Hall of Fame history. He fell short with 99.7% of the vote.

A wizard with the bat, Suzuki didn't reach the majors until he was 27 years old, but he still racked up more than 3,000 hits in MLB.

The longtime Mariners outfielder spent more than two seasons with the Yankees from 2012 to 2014.

Beltran, who spent three years with the Yankees and seven seasons (including his best season) with the Mets, was a near-miss on the ballot in his third year and appears to have a chance to win in the future.
