Sabrina Carpenter Shines at Coachella
Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter kicked off Coachella’s first day in style.
The 26-year-old performed on Friday night, transforming the desert festival into her own version of ‘Sabrina Wood.’ With an array of dazzling visuals and a vibe that blended Hollywood, Broadway, and a lively house party, the night was truly unforgettable.
In a bold choice, Carpenter donned a striking black lace bodysuit that left little to the imagination. This daring outfit sent the audience into a frenzied excitement, especially as she sang hit songs like “Juno,” “Espresso,” and “Goodbye,” showcasing her undeniable pop star confidence.
She began her set with a cinematic intro featuring Sam Elliott as a mysterious cop, warning the audience with an enigmatic message about California: “You know it’s not right there. It’s wrong.”
The initial part of her performance was steeped in retro inspiration. With vintage cars and a backdrop resembling the Hollywood Hills, plus a towering SABRINAWOOD sign, the scene evoked memories of Marilyn Monroe’s heyday.
During “Manchild,” dancers dressed as poodles and Dalmatians added whimsy to the stage. As she transitioned into songs like “Taste” and “Please Please Please,” the crowd couldn’t help but join in, with notable fans, such as Anya Taylor-Joy, participating in the livestream.
“I can’t believe I’m headlining Coachella!” Carpenter exclaimed. “Well, I mean, I can believe it a little, but it sounds better to say that, right?”
The performance included eye-catching winged dancers and sultry choreography, especially during “Feather.” A nod to Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana” infused a sense of nostalgia, while surprise guest Will Ferrell and a lively voiceover from Samuel L. Jackson kept the excitement palpable.
Jackson playfully greeted the audience, introducing himself as their “spiritual guide” there for a journey of relaxation.
Carpenter also included an engaging interlude featuring Susan Sarandon portraying an older version of herself alongside her “Girl Meets World” co-star Corey Fogelmanis.
As the finale unfolded, it embraced a full Broadway glamor, flashing phrases like “Icon in Motion” while Carpenter reflected on her journey from obscurity to taking the main stage at Coachella.
“Two years ago, I just wanted to put out a little song before Coachella,” she reminisced, a martini glass in hand. “And now, I think you might know that awful word.”
As confetti descended, a lively mix of nuns, showgirls, and Chippendale dancers joined Carpenter on stage, culminating in her performance of “Tears.”
This memorable performance followed the release of her latest music video, “House Tour,” where she made headlines for stripping alongside Margaret Qualley and Madeleine Cline.
