Liberty on Monday announced a two-game preseason schedule, including trips to Sabrina Ionescu and Nyara Sabarie's alma mater.
The defending champions will separate the preseason slate when they host the Connecticut Sun at Barclays Center on May 9th.
Liberty will then head west to play the exhibit game on May 12th, playing the showroom against the Toyota Antelope of the women's Japanese Basketball League at Matthew Knight Arena in Oregon.
General Manager Jonathan Kolb said it was a “natural step” to bring the team to Oregon for a preseason game after Ionescu and Sabbary played a key role in helping Liberty win the title in 2024.
As part of the event, Ionescu, the NCAA career triple double leader, will plan and coordinate additional team activities and community programming throughout the weekend.
“I can't wait to return to Eugene's courtroom with New York Liberty at Matthew Knight Arena,” Ionescu said in writing.
“There's something great all weekend for teammates, including the past and present, Oregon women's basketball fans, the Eugene community, the SI20 Foundation and more. ScoDucks is forever!”
Sabally shared with Ionescu's enthusiasm.
“I'm extremely excited to be holding this preseason game at Eugene,” added Savary. “I didn't think I could play again on that court and in front of our fantastic duck fans. I know Oregon will show off, and it's going to be a great atmosphere!”
It's not just the WNBA team set up to return to the previous stomping field of star players in May.
Kate Rinklerk and Indiana Fever will play Brazilian national team in the preseason game held at the University of Iowa on May 4th.
Angel Reese will also return to his alma mater LSU on May 2nd for a Chicago Sky exhibition game against the Brazilian national team.
