Sabrina Ionescu out for the Unrivaled season due to an undisclosed injury.

MIAMI — Unrivaled has shared the unfortunate news regarding Liberty player Sabrina Ionescu and her absence from this season’s 3-on-3 Basketball League.

Ionescu won’t be participating in the entire Unrivaled season—this is due to an injury she incurred during the 2025 WNBA Playoffs.

Having played for the Phantoms last year, Ionescu has now been deemed unable to engage in any on-court activities for the 2026 Unrivaled Season. The league confirmed this just three days after she concluded her second season.

While specifics about her injury haven’t been disclosed, it has been reported that she does not need surgery at this moment.

Nonetheless, Ionescu will continue with off-court training and intends to stay involved with the league. This includes attending games and making guest appearances during broadcasts on TNT Sports.

In a statement, she expressed her disappointment about not being able to play this season but mentioned her commitment to supporting the Phantoms. “We look forward to collaborating with Unrivaled on various content and broadcast opportunities,” she said, emphasizing her ongoing support for the league’s success.

Last season, Ionescu missed six games because of various injuries, such as a neck strain and a left leg issue. Still, she started in 38 games—making her the second-highest starter for the Liberty and averaging 18.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, she appeared in all three of Liberty’s matches, averaging 15.7 points along with 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

Looking ahead, Ionescu is a free agent this offseason but has previously voiced a desire to return to Brooklyn in 2026, alongside Brianna Stewart.

Project B and WNBA Stars

Alyssa Thomas is among nine WNBA players who have officially signed with Project B, a global basketball league expected to launch later this year. Thomas described Project B as a “huge opportunity” and a transformative experience, particularly for those in the later stages of their careers.

“I just grab whatever opportunities come my way,” he said after a recent practice. “I believe Project B will present serious challenges for the WNBA.”

However, interest in Project B has somewhat diminished over the past month, leading some to speculate whether the league will indeed launch. Thomas remarked that he “can’t really say” if Project B will take place next offseason.
