Sabu passes away at 60

WWE announced on Sunday the passing of Sabu, a wrestling icon known for his hardcore style, who died at the age of 60. Born Terry Blank, he recently participated in his last match during WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas, where he defeated Joey Janela in a barbed wire match.

WWE expressed its condolences, stating, “We are saddened to learn that Terry Blank, known to fans as Sabu, has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans.” The news of his death was first reported by PWInsider.

Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) added their tribute, calling him an “outlaw” and a “game changer,” acknowledging his inspiration to many and declaring that his legacy would endure. They said, “Rest in peace, and long live Sabu.”

Sabu had a profound impact on the wrestling world, and reactions to his death reflected that sentiment. He was the nephew of Ed Farhatt, known as Sheik in WWE, and held numerous championships across various promotions.

He made appearances in many organizations, including Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where he was a key figure in popularizing hardcore wrestling. He was a three-time tag team champion, a two-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion, and held the ECW World TV Championship, among others.
