Sacramento woman murdered by undocumented immigrant stalker, according to DHS officials

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that a woman in California was shot and killed outside a Panera Bread in Sacramento County on Tuesday. The alleged shooter, who is an undocumented immigrant, had a history of stalking her and was under a restraining order.

Shalini Thakur, aged 38, was near her vehicle when Rohit Rohit, originally from India, confronted her. He pursued her when she tried to escape and shot her in the head before fleeing the scene, according to authorities. Police quickly intervened but tragically, Rohit took his own life with a firearm shortly thereafter.

A spokesperson for DHS emphasized that this tragedy could have been avoided if the “Biden administration had not released this killer into our country.” There were strong words about the need for “sanctuary politicians” to stop reckless policies that endanger American lives. Thoughts and prayers were expressed for Thakur and her family.

Rohit had been stalking Thakur for months. Reports suggest that she had eventually secured a restraining order against him. She recognized him as a DoorDash delivery driver who frequently parked near her home and often engaged with her.

It appears that Rohit’s behavior escalated significantly; he even placed an Apple AirTag under Thakur’s car hood back in January. Allegations include attempts to coerce her into marriage and intimidation tactics, like threatening to harm himself or anyone she associated with. There were reports of him deflating her car tires and monitoring her movements to appear supportive while actually intending harm.

Despite having obtained a restraining order in May, he continued his harassment until at least July. Thakur’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, expressed her frustration, stating that her daughter reached out to the police multiple times, yet felt that no action was taken in time to prevent this tragedy.

Rohit entered the U.S. illegally through Arizona last August and was initially detained by Border Patrol but later released under a policy allowing migrants to await court dates in the country. As of now, DoorDash has not commented on this situation.
