A high school student from Indiana, Hailey Buzbee, 17, is feared to be dead after her mysterious disappearance following an encounter with a man on a gaming platform. Authorities have arrested the man in question as part of their ongoing investigation.
Hailey was last seen by her parents on January 5. Initially, she was thought to be a runaway, but police later indicated that she had left intentionally and was in a precarious situation.
She was reportedly picked up by 39-year-old Tyler Thomas, whom she met online. Fisher police revealed on February 1 that they suspect Hailey may have died just days after she went missing.
A vehicle linked to Thomas was spotted in Hailey’s neighborhood, and he admitted to police that he had taken her with him, as documented in court records.
Further investigation revealed inappropriate material on Thomas’ device, and he allegedly attempted to erase videos featuring Hailey. Law enforcement also focused on a residence tied to him.
Search teams, including drones and canine units, conducted a search at a rental property in Hocking County, Ohio, after police found evidence suggesting that Hailey and Thomas had spent time there together.
While Thomas has not yet been charged with murder, he was taken into custody as part of a broader investigation that includes the FBI. “The FBI is committed to pursuing justice and holding these individuals accountable for their actions,” stated Tim O’Malley, the special agent in charge of the Indianapolis office.
Hailey’s father described her as a “bright, beautiful, kind, and caring young woman” who brought joy to many and was deeply loved by her family. He expressed the family’s devastation during this difficult time.
Currently, Thomas faces charges related to inappropriate conduct with a minor and tampering with evidence.
