Saints plan to have Justin Tucker try out after his 10-game NFL suspension

Justin Tucker to Tryout with New Orleans Saints

Justin Tucker is set for his first tryout following a 10-game suspension for breaching the league’s personal conduct policy.

The New Orleans Saints are looking to bring in the experienced placekicker after Blake Gloup, during the game against the Atlanta Falcons, connected on only one of three field goal attempts.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore discussed Tucker’s upcoming tryout on Monday.

“He was one of the leaders for a long time on a very successful team,” Moore noted, referencing Tucker’s past. “It’s crucial to understand what that experience has meant.” Tucker’s suspension was notably one game shorter than that of Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, who faced similar issues in 2022.

Moore’s remark about Tucker being a leader highlights the 36-year-old’s extensive career with the Ravens, where he participated in seven Pro Bowls, earned All-Pro honors five times, and achieved a Super Bowl victory over 13 seasons.

However, the Ravens chose to move on from Tucker due to off-field complications. His kicking performance in 2024 also dipped, as he managed to make 22 of 30 field goal attempts but missed two of 62 extra point tries.

Support for Tucker also comes from his wife, Amanda, who expressed her unwavering belief in him: “The false allegations against Justin have caused great hurt to our family. I believe in my husband and fully love and support him.”

In addition to Tucker, the Saints are also expected to evaluate Cade York for the kicker position.
