Saints spoil Cowboys’ home opener as Alvin Kamara tallies 4 touchdowns in rout

The New Orleans Saints scored 47 points last week, but some discounted that because they were playing at home against the underdog Carolina Panthers.

But the Saints looked like the real deal this season, traveling and giving up 44 points to the Dallas Cowboys on their way to a 44-19 victory for their second win of the year.

The Cowboys beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 to improve to 1-1.

Similar to last week's home win over Carolina, Derek Carr and the Saints offense scored touchdowns on chunk plays, with veteran running back Alvin Kamara scoring one of them, making it a four-touchdown game on the road.

Kamara's first touchdown was a 5-yard touchdown run on the team's first drive to make the score 7-0, and on the ensuing drive, speedy receiver Rashid Shahid again found a gap behind the defense for a deep 70-yard touchdown run.

But after Carr reached the end zone on the Saints' first two drives, he delivered a pass to Kamara's chest on a screen play and the running back saw a ray of hope.

Kamara raced through the Dallas defense and into the end zone for a 57-yard catch-and-run touchdown, his second of the day.

On the Saints' next drive, CeeDee Lamb gave his team a little energy with a 65-yard scoring run, then Kamara ran in from 12 yards for a fourth-point score, putting the Saints up 28-13.

What made the game decisive was that after Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw an interception and Paulson Adebo returned it 47 yards, New Orleans got the ball at the Dallas 20-yard line. Three plays later, Carr snuck his quarterback into the end zone for the first time this season to extend the lead to 35-13.

Kamara scored his fourth touchdown of the day on the Saints' first drive of the second half, rushing 70 yards in 13 plays with 7 minutes, 56 seconds to play.

The Cowboys were never able to come from behind in the game, and Prescott was benched in the fourth quarter for backup Cooper Rush to avoid injuries on a bad day.

Prescott completed 27 of 39 passes for 293 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Carr, meanwhile, was only able to throw the ball 16 times, but he completed 11 of his passes for 243 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Meanwhile, Kamara led the game with 115 yards on 20 rushes and 65 yards on two catches, while Shahid led the passing game for New Orleans, while Chris Olave had 81 yards on four catches.
