The Saints are turning to rookies due to an injury to starting QB Derek Carr.
New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen told reporters Wednesday that Spencer Rattler will start Sunday when the Saints host the Buccaneers.
“We had a lot of conversations as a staff about what was best to give us the best chance to win the game,” Allen said. According to Fox Sports. “That was the decision we made. We're excited to have the opportunity to get him in there and let him play and see what he can do.”
Carr suffered an oblique strain in Monday night's loss to the Chiefs and is currently considered a week-to-week injury.
Quarterback Jake Hayner replaced Carr in Monday night's game, and the second-year quarterback completed two of seven pass attempts for 17 yards and went for 11 more. Ta.
“Honestly, it didn't even hit. It was just as I stepped back and strained to throw it…I asked if there was anything we could do, but we didn't have enough time.” After the game against the Chiefs, Kerr spoke about the injury.
Rattler was drafted by the Saints in the fifth round of this year's draft and has yet to make his NFL debut this season.
He appeared in three preseason appearances and completed 20 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown.
