Halloween Auction for “The Conjuring” House Canceled
A Halloween auction set for a property featured in the well-known horror film series “The Conjuring” has been canceled. This comes after a mysterious buyer acquired the home a few weeks prior.
The estate, spanning 8.5 acres in Harrisville, Rhode Island, was planned for a one-day auction on October 31st. It had drawn interest from various wealthy celebrities and paranormal fans, such as comedian Matt Rife and YouTuber Elton Caste.
However, on Wednesday, auctioneer Justin Manning of JJ Manning Auctioneers revealed that the auction would no longer take place. Manning mentioned that Needham Bank, which held the mortgage on the foreclosed property, had “closed the sale on the underlying mortgage,” although he did not disclose the identity of the buyer.
The previous owner, Jacqueline Nunez, had purchased the house in 2022 for $1.5 million. She managed it as a tourist attraction, but issues arose when workers alleged they were dismissed because the spirit of an original owner claimed Nunez was stealing. Following this, other staff members came forward with claims of mistreatment towards Nunez. In 2024, the Burrillville City Council chose not to renew her establishment’s entertainment license, complicating her ties with the local community.
This past summer, Nunez fell behind on mortgage payments, making the property available for auction.
Constructed in the 19th century, this expansive farmhouse turned into a tourist destination, with fans of “The Conjuring” paying substantial amounts for overnight stays in hopes of experiencing its legendary hauntings.
Manning seemed to buy into the house’s spooky reputation, admitting he felt uneasy entering it but was excited about the auction. He even joked about donning a Count Dracula costume, though he decided to stick with a suit for professionalism.
The property was relatively undisturbed until the Perron family moved in during 1971. Andrea Perron, who was a child at the time, chronicled various paranormal events in her book, *House of Darkness: House of Light*.
Perron recounted that the family encountered multiple spirits with differing motives. At one point, they called in renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to perform a séance. “My mother began speaking in a voice that was not her own, in a language that was not of this world. Her chair was lifted into the air and thrown across the room,” Perron recounted in a 2013 interview.
The first *Conjuring* movie, released in 2013, portrays the Perron family’s nine-year experience in a haunted house, albeit in a dramatically exaggerated fashion filled with horror elements.
