Sally Field recalls her fond friendship with the late Dolly Parton, reminiscing about their cheerful Walmart shopping trips. After the Emmy Awards on Monday, Field reflected on this special bond they shared, mentioning how she always admired and loved Parton. “She was a friend, and I loved working with her. I never stopped loving her,” Field shared, emphasizing the strong connections formed in the acting world, much like a bond forged in battle.
Field humorously noted the image of their group shopping at Walmart together, saying, “Can you imagine all of us coming into Walmart? It never leaves your soul.” However, she mentioned that the distance between them made it tough to get together frequently.
“Dolly and I lived so far apart, it was hard to keep in touch,” she explained. “But I never stopped caring for her, and I think she felt the same when we did reach out.” Field concluded with an expression of enduring affection for Parton.
At the Emmy Awards, Field paid tribute to Parton and spoke about the emotional weight of her memories, saying she didn’t want to discuss it too much afterward because it might make her cry.
Parton and Field’s friendship blossomed while working together on the film “Steel Magnolias,” which also featured Julia Roberts, Daryl Hannah, and Shirley MacLaine.
Parton passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Following her death, Field took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message, stating, “If there are truly angels on earth, then we have just lost one. I adored her with all my heart and will always cherish our time together,” expressing her profound loss.
On the night of the Emmy Awards, Field was honored for her role as Tova Sullivan in Netflix’s “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” marking her fourth Emmy win.
