Beach and water apparel brand Salt Life will close all retail stores after being sold to a new owner who has decided to liquidate the brand, parent company officials announced Tuesday.
Founded in 2003 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, the clothing line was owned by Delta Apparel Inc. submitted Fox Business reported that the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June and sold it to Hilco Consumer Retail Group and Iconix International.
The brand became popular among surfers, swimmers, fishermen and other marine lifestyle enthusiasts.
“On September 20, 2024, liquidation sales began at 28 stores in 10 states,” Hilco and Iconix said. announced In a press release. “These liquidation sales are managed by Hilco and offer unprecedented discounts on all Salt Life branded merchandise storewide.”
The parent company added that store fixtures and equipment are on sale, along with clothing and all other merchandise, and gift cards can be redeemed until Oct. 20.
The majority of the brand's 28 brick-and-mortar locations are located in Florida, but there are additional locations in Alabama, California, Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
Fox Business noted that the Salt Life Food Shack restaurant chain is not affected by the closure because it is a separate entity from the clothing brand.
Michael Troy Hutto, 56, one of the clothing company's original co-founders, declared He pleaded guilty in 2020 to the death of his 18-year-old girlfriend and will be sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2023, Breitbart News reported at the time.
He has not partnered with the company since selling it in 2013.
