Sam Brinton to Receive Mental Health Treatment to Resolve Theft Charges

Sam Brinton, an “openly genderfluid” former Department of Energy employee working for the Biden administration, will reportedly undergo mental health treatment to resolve a theft charge for stealing a woman’s luggage.

Brinton is report According to the Washington Free Beacon, Brinton pleaded guilty to petit larceny, a misdemeanor, rather than the felony theft charge. In 2018, Brinton stole the luggage of fashion designer Asha Khamsin at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Khamsin came forward in 2023 and revealed that her luggage had been lost in 2018. Brinton’s photos showed Khamsin wearing outfits that she had “custom-made,” and she added that many of the outfits Brinton had worn were in the lost luggage.

At a hearing in Arlington District Court last week, state prosecutors announced that Brinton would “receive mental health treatment, write a letter of apology and perform 50 hours of community service helping seniors,” according to the outlet.

“The settlement we reached is supported by the facts and circumstances of the entire case,” a spokesperson for Arlington County U.S. Attorney Parisa Dehgani Tufti said in a statement. “Unfortunately, as this case is pending, we are prohibited from commenting further.”

Brinton, an MIT graduate who joined the Biden administration in June 2022, was charged in October 2022 with a felony count of stealing a woman’s luggage at Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP) International Airport the previous month.

According to Alpha News:

Police at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) received a report of a suitcase missing from baggage claim on September 16. The victim, an adult woman, stated she had arrived at MSP on a Delta flight from New Orleans and had gone to collect her checked baggage from conveyor belt number 7.

According to airport records, the navy blue Vera Bradley roller bag arrived at 4:40 p.m. but was missing from the conveyor belt, so police reviewed security camera footage from baggage claim, where they observed Bullington taking the navy blue roller bag from conveyor belt 7, the complaint states.

According to the lawsuit, Brinton removed the luggage tag from the bag, placed it in her purse, “and then quickly left the area.” According to the lawsuit, Brinton arrived at MSP airport at approximately 4:27 p.m. on an American Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., but had no checked luggage and therefore no reason to go to baggage claim.

The Biden administration placed Brinton on administrative leave following accusations that he had stolen a woman’s luggage.

Brinton was accused again of stealing another woman’s luggage at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada in December 2022. A few days later, it was revealed that Brinton had been fired.
